History

A predecessor of the University of Nova Gorica was the Faculty of Environmental Sciences – the first international postgraduate school in Slovenia. The Faculty was founded on 24 September 1995 with an agreement from the Council of the Republic of Slovenia for Higher Education of 12 July 1995. It began operating in the 1995/96 study year. The founders of the Faculty were the Municipality of Nova Gorica and the "Jožef Stefan" Institute from Ljubljana.

23 January 2010 Singing of a Co-Operation Agreement between the Kulturno društvo Slovenski oktet and the University of Nova Gorica.
2 December 2009 Awarding the First Diploma at the School of Applied Sciences and at the School of Humanities.
3 June 2009 Awarding the First 2nd Level Master’s Degree at the School of Humanities and the First Diploma at the School for Viticulture and Enology.
3 December 2008 Awarding the First Master’s Degrees at the School of Engineering and Management.
23 October 2008 Awarding the First Title of Honorary Member of the University of Nova Gorica to Dr. Murat Boratav.
6 December 2007 Awarding the First Student Titles of Alumnus Primus and Alumnus Optimus.
19 October 2006 Opening of New Premises in Ajdovščina.
25 September 2006 Opening of New Premises in Gorizia (Italy).
17 March 2006 Polytechnic became the University of Nova Gorica.
1 December 2005 Awarding the first diplomas at the School of Environmental Sciences.
25 October 2005 Celebrating the tenth anniversary of the operation of Nova Gorica Polytechnic and awarding the first Professor Emeritus recognitions to Prof. Dr. Stojan Plesničar and Prof. Dr. Sidney A. Katz and the first Golden Plate recognition to Mr. Črtomir Špacapan.
27 April 2004 Nova Gorica Polytechnic has become a cofounder of the International University Institute for European Studies.
22 December 2003 Signing of the Cofounding Contract with the Scientific Research Centre of SASA, Municipality of Ajdovščina, Municipality of Nova Gorica and the “Jožef Stefan” Institute.
17 June 2002 Awarding the first diplomas at the School of Engineering and Management.
17 September 2001 Establishment of the Edvard Rusjan Foundation.
21 September 2000 Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Founding of Nova Gorica Polytechnic.
21 December 1999 Nova Gorica Polytechnic became a cofounder of Primorski tehnološki park.
26 May 1999 Promotion of the first Doctor of Science and awarding the first master’s degree at Nova Gorica Polytechnic.
19 November 1998 The Faculty of Environmental Sciences becomes Nova Gorica Polytechnic.
27 October 1998 Awarding entry documents to the first generation of undergraduate students.
30 January 1998 The Council of the Republic of Slovenia for Higher Education issues a consent to the implementation of the first undergraduate study programme “Economics and Management of Production and Technological Systems”.
17 April 1996 Celebration at the beginning of the first study year at Kromberk castle near Nova Gorica and awarding entry documents to the first generation of graduate students.
24 December 1995 The Council of the Republic of Slovenia for Higher Education issues a consent to the implementation of the graduate study programme “Environmental Sciences”.
24 September 1995 Signing of the contract on the foundation of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences (the predecessor of Polytechnic and the University of Nova Gorica) at Kromberk castle near Nova Gorica. The founders are represented by the Mayor of the Municipality of Nova Gorica Črtomir Špacapan and the Director of the Jožef Stefan Institute Danilo Zavrtanik.
