University of Nova Gorica invites to the lecture: “Basic research to understand spinal cord injury” by Prof. Dr. Andrea Nistri (Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, SISSA, Trieste).

Lecture will take place on Thursday, 17 November 2011 at 7 p.m. at Kulturni Center Lojze Bratuž, Gorica, Italy. Lecture will be in english language.

Spinal cord injury often induces lifelong disability with major negative impact on patients, their families and society. In addition to the typical traumatic origin, there is a growing trend for the occurrence of non-traumatic lesions especially in the aging populations of our countries. When surveying the outcome of spinal cord injury, it is clear that few patients will walk normally again and will suffer from a host of associated pathologies affecting the autonomic nervous system. The challenge is to understand the pathological mechanisms triggered by the lesion and the effective strategies to protect the spinal cord or regain its lost function.
