University of Nova Gorica linguists Prof. Dr. Artur Stepanov and Prof. Dr. Penka Stateva became part of a European linguistics research consortium which will prepare a position paper for the areas of theoretical and experimental linguistics within the context of EU work programs.

The document will formulate strategic goals and identify key research agendas for the European cognitive science of language for the next decade, and it will also contain recommendations for the European Commission concerning the main areas of concentration for research funding in this field in the next 5-10 years.

Prof. Dr. Artur Stepanov and Prof. Dr. Penka Stateva share membership on the consortium, which had its first meeting in September 2011 at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in Wassenaar, Holland, with theoretical and experimental linguists from the Universities of Leiden, Utrech, Verona, Trento, Edinburgh, Reading, Geneva, Konstanz, Lyon, Nantes, and the Basque Countries. The University of Nova Gorica is thus the only university in Slovenia and in the countries not part of the former Western Europe which has a representative in the above-mentioned European linguistic consortium and thus actively participates in EU’s strategic research-direction policy making.
