Date of publication: 28. 2. 2013
Events

The University of Nova Gorica's Laboratory for astroparticle physics is for the third time in a row hosting the international conference »Time and Matter 2013«, taking place from 4-8 March 2013 on the University of Nova Gorica's premises in Venice, Italy.

The aim of the conference is to present multiple aspects of time and matter in all fields of physics, from elementary particles to galactic and cosmological proportions. In the light of the latest experimental results at the CERN's Large Hadron Collider, topics related to the mechanism providing mass to all particles in nature and the related recent discovery of the Higgs boson will be covered in detail. The lectures, which among others include professors Peter Higgs and Nobel laureate Gerard 't Hooft, will in detail cover the most recent achievements in the research of the origin of matter and dark matter, violation of discrete symmetries in nature, quantum gravity, time reversal and arrow of time, with a special emphasis on the latest results by the LHC collaborations at CERN, Geneva. There will also be a session dedicated to a philosophical discussion of time and matter.
