The University of Nova Gorica is seeking to fill a post of:
Assistant / Postdoctoral Researcher

The Center for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at University of Nova Gorica (see https://www-cbzi.ung.si/index.php/sl/home) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher or Assistant Professor to work on a project funded by INTERREG PROTEO, a cross-border project between Slovenia and Italy on developing recombinant antibodies for diagnostics and therapy in oncology. The selected candidate will work with other members of the research team (see https://www-cbzi.ung.si/index.php/sl/home/137 publications of the team). The expectations are that the candidate will:

1) Develop panning methods for isolating binders against tumor biomarkers
2) Further develop methods for panning on biopsies and antibody functionalization
3) Apply this models in biosensors and murine systems

The position will start on approximately December 1, 2013. Annual salary will be competitively offered based on the level and experience of the applicant, and will include full employee benefits. Appointment will initially be made for one year with possible extension.

Candidates will be expected:
- to have university degree in the relevant field or be enrolled in doctoral studies in
relevant field,
- or to have a PhD and demonstrated expertise in molecular biology (cloning,
mutagenesis), biochemistry (protein expression and functional characterization,
immunoprecipitation, chemical functionalization), cell culture,
- to engage in appropriate teaching activities,
- fluency in English language reading, writing and speaking.

Lab skills:
Mandatory: Basic molecular biology, cell culture, and protein purification techniques. Desired: Experience in phage and yeast display, SPR measurement, flow cytometry.

Recently graduated Ph.D. students without all of the required skills, but who are exceptional in research capability and initiative, are encouraged to apply. There is no specific requirement on the majors of applicants, but the following disciplines are preferred: biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biotechnology.

Location:
The position is on campus of University of Nova Gorica in palace Lanthieri in Vipava, Slovenia. Vipava has a beautiful landscape and is situated about an hour drive from capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, few minutes drive from world wonder of Postojna cave (see http://www.postojnska-jama.eu/en/?setLocale=en_US), and two hours drive from Venice (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice ). Long training periods are foreseen at the Institut Curie, Paris.
