POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER or ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The Center for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at University of Nova Gorica (see https://www-cbzi.ung.si/index.php/sl/home) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher or Assistant Professor to work on a project AHA-MOMENT Creative Core (Active and Healthy Aging – MOlecular MEchanisms, Nutrition and nanoparticle-based Targeting).
The Postdoctoral Researcher will work with other members of the research team (see https://www-cbzi.ung.si/index.php/sl/home/137 publications of the team).

The expectations are that the candidate will:

• investigate the events leading to reduced cell viability and reactivity in aged tissue,
• develop strategies to protect the cells and minimize the damage by characterizing epigenetic molecular code associated with activation of mammalian cell aging and senescence,
• testing the impact of oxidative stress on epigenetic mechanisms,
• identifying critical early cell surface markers of aging changes.

The position will start on approximately January 1, 2014. Annual salary will be competitively offered based on the level and experience of the applicant, and will include full employee benefits. Appointment will initially be made for one year with possible extension for an additional year.

The candidates are expected to also engage in appropriate teaching activities.

Required Skills:

• Ph.d. in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering or similar discipline
• interest in studying the effects of antioxidants on human cell senescence.
• Show very good (oral and written) communication skills in English.

Recently graduated Ph.D. students without all of the required skills, but who are exceptional in research capability and initiative, are encouraged to apply. There is no specific requirement on the majors of applicants, but the following disciplines are preferred: biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biotechnology.

Location:
The position is on campus of University of Nova Gorica in palace Lanthieri in Vipava, Slovenia. Vipava has a beautiful landscape and is situated about an hour drive from capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, few minutes drive from world wonder of Postojna cave (see http://www.postojnska-jama.eu/en/?setLocale=en_US), and two hours drive from Venice (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice ).
