Jan Krivec, who successfully completed his undergraduate studies (1st level) in the program Engineering and Management at the School of Engineering and Management of the University of Nova Gorica, was awarded the third prize for his bachelor’s thesis titled “The Development of Informational System for Monitoring the Availability of Rooms in the Student Dormitory” that was prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bogdana Filipiča and Doc. Dr. Ingrid Petrič.

In his thesis, Krivec, on the basis of the requirements of the users of the dormitory (that also operates as a hostel), developed a program that handles bookings and reservations of rooms offered by smaller venues. The program enables an overview of the availability of rooms, the creation of various reports, and the sending of serious complaints of the guests to the police. By creating this program, he made it possible for the users to have a better overview of the room availability and made manual handling of the guests records redundant. This, consequently, reduced the amount of mistakes that were common with the manual keeping of the records, and saved time, as the guests and the reservations data is now only filed once and all the reports are based on that one entry. The program’s user interface is simple and enables the user to quickly grasp the functions of the program.
