Doc. Dr. Kaja Širok, the Head of the National Museum of Contemporary History and a staff member of the University of Nova Gorica, was awarded with a distinguished Italian award by the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.

Italian President gave a special honorary title to a faculty member of the University of Nova Gorica

The honorary title of the Knight of the Italian Star Order was delivered to Doc. Dr. Kaja Širok by the Italian Ambassador in Slovenia, Her Excellency Ms. Rossella Franchini Sherifis.

The commentary on the award said that Doc. Dr. Kaja Širok was honored because of many years of doing research on the borderland history (Slovenia – Italy) and because of her work in the area of intercultural collaboration between Italy and Slovenia.

Doc. Dr. Kaja Širok earned her PhD at the University of Nova Gorica’s Graduate School in 2009. Her dissertation was titled “Collective Memory and Collective Oblivion in the Borderland: The Memories of Gorizia between 1943-1947”. At the University of Nova Gorica, she works as a faculty member at the graduate program Comparative Study of Ideas and Cultures. She teaches Cultural History and Cultural Heritage.
