Faculty members at the University of Nova Gorica prof. dr. Juš Kocijan and prof. dr. Tadej Bajd are the co-authors of the “Terminological Dictionary of Automatics,” which recently got published by the ZRC Publishing House.

The terminological dictionary comprises of 1753 terms from the field of automatics; this includes mathematical modeling, simulation of dynamic systems, automatic guidance with suitable parts and robotics. The area also includes signal management, information technologies, and production technologies. The dictionary is geared towards the needs of experts and students who work in the field of management technology and dynamic systems in technical and non-technical areas. When creating the dictionary entries, the creators used the thoroughly studied and double-checked scientific sources (writings). The entries are explained by definitions that explain the meaning within a particular area of study, or by a pointer that directs the reader to a better term. With such normative or prescriptive data, the dictionary wishes to contribute to the alignment of terminology in the field of automatics. Different terms that are used for the same concept can cause many misunderstandings, which may result in the lack of precision and efficiency in communication among those dealing with this area. The field of automatics – in terms of terminology - is strongly dependent on the English wording, hence the dictionary also uses English language equivalents.
