The Center for Cognitive Science of Language of the University of Nova Gorica announces the launch of VEČJEZIČNOSR VELJA, the Slovenian branch of Bilingualism Matters, an information service set up in Edinburgh in 2008 and dedicated to families, educators, and people interested in the topic of bilingualism.

Launch of VEČJEZIČNOST VELJA

Benefitting from the results of current scientific research on the cognitive and linguistic aspects of bilingualism, the service provides consultancy and organizes public events in order to disseminate information and make people aware of the benefits of being bilingual.

Večjezičnost Velja will be launched on November 25th at 16.30 in the lobby of the main building of the University of Nova Gorica (Vipavska 13, Rožna Dolina, Nova Gorica). Opening addresses will be given by prof. Antonella Sorace, founder and director of the Edinburgh centre, by Sandra Sodini, director of the European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EZTS), by the vice-rector for education of the UNG, prof. dr. Mladen Franko and members of the academic community.

The following day, on November 26th at 18.00, prof. dr. Antonella Sorace will hold a public lecture at Kulturni Dom (via Brass, 20, Gorizia, Italy) entitled »Bilingualism: an investment for families and for society«, in which she will talk about challenges and advantages of bilingualism discussing current experimental studies. She will also focus on the topic of minority languages and their role in bilingualism.The lecture will be in Italian. Simultaneous Slovenian translation will be provided.

Both events are free and everyone is welcome to attend.
