The Establishment of the Network of Universities of the Škocjanske jame Park

The Škocjanske jame Park is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the work of the Biospheral Karst territory and the 28th anniversary of Škocjanske jame’s entry into UNESCO’s world heritage list. They used this opportunity to also establish the Network of Universities of the Škocjanske jame Park.

On 9 December, 2014, the founding charter was signed by Stojan Ščuka, who is currently working as an acting manager of the Škocjanske jame Park, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Ivan Svetlik, the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik, and the Rector of the Univerza na Primorskem, Prof. Dr. Dragan Marušič.

The Škocjanske jame Park also promised to work towards networking, collaboration, knowledge exchange and providing of educational and research options. Moreover, they said they would offer professional and logistics support for the projects, as well as protect cultural and natural heritage. The universities on the other hand promised to collaborate at the Škocjanske jame Park projects, inform the students about international goals and activities, enable research work and plan research and the use of products that concern protection, management, education, and sustainability of the development within the Biospheral Karst area.
