A Visit of the ARRS (Slovenian Research Agency) Director at the University of Nova Gorica

On Thursday, 15 January, 2015, the Director of the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS), Prof. Dr. József Györkös and the Head of the research Projects Sector, Simon Ošo visited the University of Nova Gorica. They were greeted by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik and the Vice-rector for Education, Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko.

In the beginning of their visit, the Rector, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik presented the pedagogical and research activities at the University of Nova Gorica. After that, they were given a tour round the Laboratory for Environmental Research. Later on, the guests also visited the University Center of the University of Nova Gorica in Ajdovščina, where the staff members familiarized them with the activities of the Materials Research Laboratory, the Laboratory of Organic Matter Physics, and the Laboratory of Quantum Optics. The visit ended with the presentation of the work of the Center for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering and the Wine Research Center that are both located at the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

As part of the visit, the University’s management also talked with the ARRS Director about difficulties and successes in the area of research activities at the University; the University of Nova Gorica will be celebrating its 20th year of existence this year. The University’s research activities are carried out within six laboratories, five centers and represents 70% of all earnings. The University’s goal is to become a leading research center in the broader region in the areas of environment, materials, biomedicine, and the research of aging processes.
