The Visit of the Minister for Education, Science, and Sports, Prof. Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič
On Friday 24 July, 2015, Prof. Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič, the Minister for Education, Science, and Sports visited the University of Nova Gorica. She was invited by the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik.
She was greeted by the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik, and Vice- rector for Education, Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko at the University center in Ajdovščina. After that, the Minister visited the Laboratory of Quantum Optics, the Materials Research Laboratory, and the Laboratory for Organic Matter Physics. She was thus able to see first hand their lively research activities. Later, she visited the University’s space in the Lanthieri Mansion.
The Rector briefly introduced the University to the Minister and then they talked about topical issues in education and science, as well as about the financing of various study activities and plans for the future. The meetings ended with the viewing of the University’s space in the Lanthieri Mansion, where the School for Viticulture and Enology, Wine Research Center, and the Center for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering are located.
At the end of the visit the Minister said that the research potential, the development of the study programs, and international strives and openness of the University of Nova Gorica display the characteristics of a real, contemporary university center. She wishes us a lot of enthusiasm, creativity, and perseverance for our future endeavors.
