The Big Win of the Student Aleksej Jurca at the 11th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

Nov. 21, 2017

At the 11th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics that took place between November 12 and 20, 2017 in Thailand, an 18-year old student of the University of Nova Gorica’s bachelor’s program in Physics and Astrophysics (at the School of Science), Aleksej Jurca, won.

He received the highest number of points among all the contestants and thus became the first Slovene absolute winner of any of the Natural Science Olympiads so far.

At this year’s Olympiad, there were 214 contestants and, as the experts have said, it was the toughest Olympiad so far. So Aleksej’s achievement is really a historic one.

Our sincerest congratulations to Aleksej Jurca and the entire competition and preparation team!
