The University of Nova Gorica announces an open position for the head of the Center for atmospheric research.

Deadline for applications: 30. 6. 2019 or untill the position is filled.

The "University of Nova Gorica":http://www.ung.si/en/ is located in the Vipava valley of Slovenia, which is known for specific atmospheric phenomena, making it a prime location for unique research opportunities. The location is also unique as it is close both to the Adriatic sea and Italy as well as to the Alps and offers scenic views and numerous possibilities for wine tasting, hiking and other outdoor activities. Established in 1995, UNG is the fourth University in Slovenia. Its mission is to engage in new and interdisciplinary research, while offering our students a small student to teacher ratio. We are continually looking for highly motivated individuals who can contribute to our continual growth and attract top students both within Slovenia and worldwide.

The "Center for atmospheric research":http://www.ung.si/en/research/centre-for-atmospheric-research/, established in 2004, is involved in the research of atmospheric processes using a number of detection tools, including lidar based remote sensing, and participates in the development of the lidar system for the CTA observatory at La Palma. Its location in Ajdovščina and its atmospheric observatory at "Otlica":http://www.ung.si/en/research/centre-for-atmospheric-research/otlica-observatory/ (member of the "Virtual Alpine Observatory network":https://www.vao.bayern.de/) provide the infrastructure for in-house studies of a wide range of atmospheric phenomena, from Bora outbreaks to propagation and composition of atmospheric aerosols. The Center has a history of pursuing international collaborations and attracting international students. Results of research work have been published in journals such as JQSRT, Remote Sensing, Atmospheric Research and The European Physical Journal Plus. Existing collaborations include German aerospace center (DLR), the University of Iowa, Xi’an University of Technology and Ocean University of China, University of Bologna, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Queen Mary University of London and others.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced candidate, who will have the opportunity to further expand both the research activities of the center and its research team. The candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in teaching activities at the undergraduate and/or graduate level at the University of Nova Gorica (School of Science, School of Environmental Sciences and Graduate School).

Long-term research funding, including the funding of PhD students is assured.

The successful candidate will be given a permanent position at the University of Nova Gorica. The mandate for the position of the head of the Center for atmospheric research is four years, with the possibility of re-applying to the same position.

The candidates are expected to: * have a PhD degree in a relevant field (physics, astrophysics, meteorology, remote sensing relevant fields of engineering), * have leadership experience of research groups, * have experience with research projects, * be proficient in English.

Please submit: * curriculum vitae, * copy of the PhD degree and other relevant documents, * list of publications, * a cover letter, describing research experience and interests, * vision for future development of the Center for atmospheric research.
