University of Nova Gorica has vacancy for the position of head of the Centre for information technologies and applied mathematics.

"The Centre for Information Technologies and Applied Mathematics":http://www.ung.si/en/research/centre-for-systems-and-information-technologies/ (CITUM) at "the University of Nova Gorica":http://www.ung.si/en/ houses an interdisciplinary research group that operates at the intersection of computer science, information science, mathematics, systems management technologies and process engineering. It develops new approaches to modelling and applies them to a variety of fields, from biomedicine to education and industry. It also develops methods for intelligent data analysis and tests them in areas in which IT support is key to uncovering new knowledge.

We are seeking a new colleague motivated by the challenge of forming and leading their own research group. We can offer a dynamic research environment with a focus on involvement in international research.

The strategic orientation of the centre means that experience in data science is desired. The head of the centre will also have the opportunity to teach students at all three Bologna study levels, for example at "the School of Engineering and Management":http://www.ung.si/en/study/school-of-engineering-and-management/, "the School of Environmental Sciences":http://www.ung.si/en/study/school-of-environmental-sciences/, "the School of Natural Sciences":http://www.ung.si/en/study/school-of-science/, "the Graduate School":http://www.ung.si/en/study/graduate-school/ and others.

To be considered for the position, you should: * hold a doctorate of science in computer science, applied mathematics, electrical engineering or a related discipline; * meet the requirements for leading research projects; * have experience in obtaining, conducting and leading research projects; * have good organisational and leadership skills; * have at least five years’ work experience; * have knowledge of the Slovenian language to at least C1 level or a willingness to learn it; * have knowledge of the English language to at least C1 level.

Shortlisted candidates will also be asked to submit details of their vision for the centre. The selected candidate will be offered a full-time permanent position for an initial period of four years, which may be extended.
