Research assistant (physics, astrophysics or data science) (m/f)

We are seeking candidates interested in pursuing a rewarding research and academic career at the University of Nova Gorica. We offer a dynamic research environment with a focus on involvement in the international academic sphere.

The work will be carried out at the Centre for Astrophysics and Cosmology. The research group based at the Centre is involved in various fields of modern astrophysics, including high-energy astrophysics, particle astrophysics and multi-messenger astronomy.

The successful candidate will carry out research into the astrophysics of gamma rays and dark matter, and take part in a project to prepare for dark-matter searches using the Cherenkov Telescope Array with the use of machine learning. The successful candidate will also assume teaching duties in some of the university’s study programmes.

To be considered for the position, candidates should: * have a doctorate in physics, astrophysics or data science; * have a good command of the English language.

Preference will be given to candidates with research experience in the fields of dark matter or machine learning.

The successful candidate would be expected to start work on 1 October 2019. Employment is offered for full-time working hours over a fixed term of one year, with the possibility of extension.
