Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko became an honorary doctor
The Vice-rector for Education at the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko received the title of an honorary doctor of the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University (ASAU) in Ganja.
The justification statement about the honorary doctorate awarded to Prof. Dr. Franko explicitly stated that the title was given to him for his “important contribution to the promotion and support of collaboration between the University of Nova Gorica and the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University.”
Prof. Dr. Franko has been collaborating with the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University since 2013, when the first exchange visits happened between the universities as part of the Erasmus Mundus “Infinity” program. Since 2015, Prof. Dr. Franko has been lecturing regularly at the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University as a visiting professor. He has been sharing his extensive knowledge and his brand new scientific achievements in the field of ecological farming, environmental chemistry and analytical methods for chemical analysis and characterization of environmental samples, as well as food quality and safety assurance. He has been able to ensure financial support for this collaboration mostly with the help of the Erasmus+ program (the sum total now exceeds 170,000 euros); these funds made it possible for many students and academic as well professional staff members of the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University to make shorter or longer visits at the UNG, as well as to study or get professional training at the University of Nova Gorica. Prof. Dr. Franko is also the initiator and the creator of the agreement on joint mentorships and dual doctoral degrees (joining ASAU and UNG) in the areas of environmental sciences and agronomy.
