The University of Nova Gorica and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice offer a the option of a double degree at the Master’s study programme in Language Science

An agreement signed by the University of Nova Gorica (UNG) and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice inaugurates the launch of the double degree Master’s programme in Language Science, on the basis of the existing Master’s study programme Slovene Studies – Linguistics at the UNG School of Humanities and the Master’s study programme Language Science (it. Laurea magistrale in Scienze del linguaggio – LM-39) at the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies at Ca’Foscari University of Venice.

The Master’s programme Slovene Studies – Linguistics at UNG is a versatile and distinctly research-oriented programme covering a wide range of topics in modern cognitive science of language from both the theoretical and experimental perspectives. The theoretical portion of the programme emphasizes the formal aspects and models of grammar, while the experimental components cover the basic knowledge of experimental linguistics and psycholinguistics. The Ca’Foscari programme Language Science has a strong emphasis on formal grammar and structure of particular languages. It is oriented towards research and offers a variety of basic and advanced courses covering modern theoretical and experimental linguistics, psycholinguistics, as well as computational and corpus linguistics.

The main objective of the double degree is to integrate the strengths and specificities of the two study programmes into a coherent and diversified curriculum to the major benefit of the students, and to offer the students a solid background in the state-of-the art theory of linguistic knowledge and modeling various aspects of speakers' grammatical competence and language use.

The joining of the two programmes will enrich the palette of available courses and make the two programmes even more appealing for the students. In addition to the clear educational advantage, the students will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the different cultural specifics that define the two universities.

In order to meet the admission criteria for be admitted to the double degree study optionprogram, in addition to the usualrequired usual set of documents to be submitted for admission to the Master’s programme in Slovene Studies – Linguistics, the applicants must also provide a proof of their knowledge of English language proficiency at the CEFR level B2 level according to CEFR. To successfully complete the double degree study programme, the students need to pass obligatory and elective courses at the University of Nova Gorica and the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and successfully defend their Master’s thesis in front ofbefore a joint committee consisting of members from both universities. The students who fulfill all the assigned obligations at both universities will be awarded a Master’s Degree by both universities, the University of Nova Gorica and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, regardless of the university of their first enrollment (alma mater).
