»Open Education for a Better World« awarded with »Open Collaboration Award for Excellence«

The award is presented by the Open Education Award Committee to recognize exceptional work in Open Education, dedication to openness, access, high quality and innovation. The award for the program has been received by Tanja Urbančič, Mitja Jermol and Anja Polajnar.

Open Education for a Better World (OE4BW) is an international mentoring program supporting the development and implementation of freely accessible modules and resources for online education on topics with social impact according to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It provides an innovative approach to building Open Educational Resources, connecting developers of educational materials with internationally recognized experts volunteering. 131 projects have been included with 100 mentors being involved into the program during the last three years (https://oe4bw.org/).

The OE4BW program has been developed and is managed Tanja Urbančič, the Dean of the School of Engineering and Management at the University of Nova Gorica, and Mitja Jermol, UNESCO Chair on Open Technologies for Open Educational Resources and Open Learning at the Jožef Stefan Institute. Anja Polajnar, a doctoral student at the University of Nova Gorica, employed by the Jožef Stefan Institute, is leading organizational activities.

Open Collaboration Award for Excellence is presented to successful environment that fosters the collective production of open resources and open practices with a shared goal; an interchange of ideas supported through technologically mediated collaborative platforms, encouraging new opportunities for people to form ties with others and create things together; encouraging diversity of goals, backgrounds and cultures.
