The Laboratory for organic matter of University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia) is seeking an EXPERIENCED RESEARCHER IN THE FIELD OF ULTRAFAST PUMP-PROBE SPECTROSCOPY

Application deadline: 3. 8. 2012

The position is open within the project Strengthening University of Nova Gorica Research Potential in Environmental Sciences and Novel Nanomaterials (SUNGREEN), co-financed under the Framework Programme 7 (Call: FP7-REGPOT-2011-1), with duration until 30.9.2014.

The University of Nova Gorica is currently implementing a new state-of-the-art light source, named CITIUS, based on laser high-harmonic generation (HHG) in gas. The source will initially cover the energy range between 20 and 40 eV. Harmonic pulses will have a duration of few tens of femtoseconds, an energy of the order of a fraction of microjoule and variable repetition rate (from 1 to 10 kHz). Part of the laser light will be used to feed an optical parametric amplifier, generating tunable infra-red pulses to be used in combination with the harmonic light for pump-probe experiments.

Fields of work and research:

  • Design and realization of pump and probe experiments in the field of femtochemistry and ultrafast surface dynamics, in collaboration with the team working at the development of the FERMI@Elettra free-electron laser at Sincrotrone Trieste.
  • Propose, organize and conduct experiments that will include both material characterization through photo-physical reactions and the study of intra-molecular processes in isolated species.
  • Establish solid and fruitful collaborations with the local, national and international scientific community.
  • Prepare and submit research projects to sustain and enrich the above mentioned research activities.
  • For more information on CITIUS activities, please contact: Giovanni De Ninno (giovanni.deninno@elettra.trieste.it)

    Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or equivalent degree;
  • Postdoctoral experience in the fields related to the job description;
  • Proven ability to promote and perform independent work in a group-oriented research environment.
  • Distinguished publication record.
  • Very good oral and written communication skills in English are essential.
  • The application should include:

  • Cover letter
  • CV with contact details
  • list of relevant publications
  • two letters of recommendations
  • it would be advantageous for the candidate to submit a tentative plan of research activities (max. 2 pages)
