The Green Bike Tour-Slovenia 2010
The University of Nova Gorica in collaboration with the Iowa Policy Project in Iowa City, Iowa and two centers at the University of Iowa (Centre for Global and Regional Environmental Research and the Environmental Health Sciences Research Center) are sponsoring the Green Bike Tour. This biking tour throughout Slovenia aims to promote renewable energy and environment-friendly technologies and modes of transportation.
The Green Bike Tour-Slovenia 2010 will be held from 5 till 11 June 2010. The route will take the participants from Nova Gorica, via Ajdovščina and Postojna to Ljubljana. The tour then turns north to Bled, Škofja Loka, Most na Soči, Avče and back to Nova Gorica. On our way we will visit several governmental organizations (Ministry of foreign affairs, Office of Climatic Change) and non governmental organizations (Ecovitae, Environmental Centre), companies (Savske Electric Plant, Soške Electric Plant) and institutions which are engaged in exploitation of renewable energy (Energy Management Agency GOLEA, Energy Efficiency Centre at the Jožef Stefan Institute, the Biotechnical Centre at Naklo) with particular emphasis on renewable energy.
With representatives of mentioned institutions we will discuss strategies for increasing the exploitation of renewable energy in Slovenia and in USA and raising public awareness. On our stops we will organize roundtables, public lectures related to renewable energy and agitate for needed changes in our relation regarding the environment and exploitation of energy resources.
Our guests from the USA will be accompanied by students and staff from the University of Nova Gorica, as well as by staff members of the institutions and organizations visited on the Green Bike Tour Slovenia 2010. Several environmentalists, sympathizers, and friends of nature and cycling will also ride.
The Green Bike Tour Slovenia 2010 will commence on Saturday 5 June 2010 at 10.00 from the University of Nova Gorica parking lot at Vipavska 13 in Rožna Dolina, with the farewell greetings by Mr. Mirko Brulc the mayor of Nova Gorica and deputy to the National Assembly of Slovenia.
