The "Rectors' Conference of the Alps-Adriatic universities - AARC" took place in Gorizia (Italy), from 13 to 14 May 2011. The University of Nova Gorica took part in the conference as its new member.

The Rectors' Conference of the Alps-Adriatic universities includes the rectors and presidents of the universities and colleges of the Alps Adriatic region. In 1979, Prof. Dr. Anton Kolb, as Rector of the University of Graz, founded the Rectors' Conference of the Alps Adriatic Universities. At present, it's comprises of 48 universities or colleges.

The Rectors' Conference of the Alps-Adriatic universities is constituted to promote dialogue among the higher educational institutions of the Alps Adriatic regions in the fields of education, scientific research and didactics. AARC is engaged in supporting collaboration of teachers and students in different academic fields.
