»Solbiopolysy« is an innovative project, co-funded from the European community through the 6th framework programme. Six partners from four European countries (Slovenia, Greece, Portugal and Italy) participate in the consortium. Solbiopolysy seeks to advance the development of innovative and readily applicable technologies, based on the integration of landfill gas and solar energy, for the generation of electricity and, eventually, heating and cooling systems. The Solbiopolysy technology will be tested in a pilot plant located in Slovenia.

The main objectives of the project were to develop innovative technologies in order to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. The Solbiopolysy technology in an innovative way combines already established green technologies. This technology uses renewable energy resources such as landfill gas and solar energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The trend of energy use from renewable sources increases from year to year, but it is still too slow in relation to EU policy objectives, thus giving an additional importance to the Solbiopolysy project.

Pilot installation (plant)
Innovative technology “Solbiopolysy” will be tested at pilot plant, located on the non active municipal landfill at Brstje near Ptuj (Slovenia). The landfill is in the process of rehabilitation. The solar system will capture sunlight to preheat the technological process water to superheated steam, which will convert methane as the main component of landfill gas into synthetic gas. This synthesis gas mixture will fuel the internal combustion engine, where it will be converted into electricity and heat. This system can be upgraded to a system for the exploitation of thermal energy for heating or cooling of different objects. From an environmental aspect, the pilot plant is considered as an exclusively environment positive by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and while not contributing to additional

Press conference Solbiopolysy
We announce press conference “Solbiopolysy: from waste to energy” in the beginning of September 2010 at Ptuj. The press conference will provide detailed information about the plant, its technology and impact on the surrounding area.
