University of Nova Gorica - doctoral study in Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage (ETCAEH) and the International Academy for Environmental Sciences (IAES) have jointly organized the international meeting in Venice, in two days on the following subjects: Common Goods: Out of Property, Which Rights for Users? on 23 October 2012, Common Goods: Which Effective National and International Protection? on 24 October 2012.

The international meeting will introduce the fundamental legal, economic, social and cultural aspects that are related to the concept of Common Good and which are necessary for the comprehension of the emergency for the effective protection of Common Goods and for the establishment of the European and International Environmental Criminal Court. The initiative is organized with the support of the City of Venice and other international organizations as per the attached programme.

The core aspects of the initiative:
Now that all the instances that currently govern us lay their hopes and trust on the blind look of financial power, self-projecting into a future increasingly commercial, this conference seeks to address and reveal the potential of the present through a careful analysis of a past extracommercium that turns out to be of great actuality. Protection, therefore, of a "wealth" which is not quantifiable or exchangeable as an accumulation of things, but based on the quality of the relationships and on the nutrition of the culture of complexity this relationship imposes itself. A having that is related with the right and the use, without ever being appropriation, but only common use. Hence, the protection of common goods, intended not as protection of property, whether private or public, of something external (as opposed) to the individual, but as the salvation of our extended Being.
While economists may respond to this situation by stressing the originality and the creativeness of social initiatives and struggles, and connect this with traditional approaches of governance, but for jurists and lawyers, there is a huge challenge: How to build a social order based on user rights and no more on owners rights?

The initiative is open to public. Kindly invited!
