In November 2008, the Wine Research Centre at the University of Nova Gorica has been established and situated in Ajdovščina next to the School for Viticulture and Enology.

Wine Research Centre

With the establishment of the Centre, researchers from the fields of viticulture, enology and wine marketing were united into common research activities. The Centre is located in the middle of the wine growing region and is therefore strongly connected with local winegrowers and winemakers. Currently, there are seven researchers and two young researchers employed at the Center. The experts of the Wine Research Centre are skilled in research as well as practical knowledge. Besides, they all participate in educational process at School for Viticulture and Enology and will thus be able to transfer the knowledge to their students. One of the main goals of the new Centre is also the establishment of active cooperation with similar institutions abroad.

The research work and plans of the newly established Centre are focused on applicative and expert activities in the following fields:

  • Analyses of grape and wine secondary metabolites
  • Analyses of various plant origin samples quality
  • Optimization of viticulture technologies in accordance with wine quality
  • Optimization of wine-making technologies in correlation with wine composition and wine sensory characteristic
  • Microbiology of vines and wine
  • Grape and yeast metabolomics
  • Economics and wine marketing
