University of Nova Gorica leading partner in cross-border project Gotrawama

In response to the notice from the European Territorial Cooperation Programme of the Cross-border Cooperation Slovenia - Italy 2007-2013 the standard project Gotrawama - Cross-border system for water management in the urban area of Gorizia and Nova Gorica has been approved. The project includes, and combines, the expertise of ten research and educational institutions, local institutions and utility companies.

The main objective of the project is to develop cross-border water management in the urban areas of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The system includes: surface water (flood risk, quality), groundwater (availability, the possibility of energy efficiency, quality and security) and waste water treatment (cleaning). Taking into account the in-depth knowledge of water through the recording of the impacts that affect the system load and the associated pollution of the aquatic environment, the project will develop a common system that will enable the effective management of the water in line with EU requirements.

Thirty six months have been allocated for the execution of the tasks provided for, its cost is € 1.209.150, of which the University of Nova Gorica will contribute 385.227 euros. The project will run from 11.01.2011 to 31.10.2014. Activities will be implemented in the watershed border cities of: Gorizia, Nova Gorica, Šempeter, Vrtojba.

The University of Nova Gorica (UNG) is involved in the project as a leading partner.
