  • On October 21st, 2021, at 14:00, we are hosting the seminar by Dr. Aleksandar Shulevski from Leiden University (Netherlands) who will speak about Using radio instruments for studying transient astrophysical phenomena.

  • On September 24, 2021, we are participating in the European Researchers’ Night 2021. From the Center for Astrophysics and Cosmology, Dr. Saptashwa Bhattacharyya will speak about gASTRONOMIC experience – Energetic breakfast at Cherenkov Telescope Array (the theme is Virtual Scientific snacks).   • On September 15th, 2021, the Trilateral (Trieste – Nova Gorica – Ljubljana) meeting will take place in Vipava. More info here
  • On May 27, 2021, we will have a seminar by Dr. Chris Stoughton (Fermilab, Illinois, USA) on the exciting experimental result 'Fermilab g-2: Measuring the Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon’
  • Professor Danilo Zavrtanik, the rector of the University and the Blitz prize awardee for 2020, will give a talk about his Research highlights on March 8th, at 16.45h.
  • The Barcelona Raman lidar, which is the official pathfinder for CTA North observatory, was just deployed to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory at La Palma for one year commissioning campaign. The project is supported by UAB (Spain), IFAE (Spain), UNG (Slovenia), U. Padova (Italy) and INFN (Italy). (10.02.2021.)
















  • Our PhD students will participate at Informativa fair (largest student fair in Slovenia, this year completely online) on both 22 and 23 January 2021, presenting their research fields at the following webinars: Temni snovi (Veronika Vodeb) and Različnih vrstah spremenljivih izvorov v vesolju (Taj Jankovič)
  • On 1.12.2020 Prof. Dr. Andrej Filipčič, Prof. Dr. Samo Stanič and Prof. Dr. Marko Zavrtanik received the highest state award for science (Zois award) for their research findings concerning cosmic particles at extreme energies. )
  • On 11.06.2020 A new study involving Tanja Petrushevska of the Center for Astrophysics and Cosmology at the University of Nova Gorica shows how researchers can use explosions of stars outside of our Milky Way to search for a particular class of dark matter particles, read more.
  • On 16.10.2019, 17:00-21:00, as part of the University week, we will hold an astronomical evening at School of Science in Ajdovščina, with various fun experiments, telescope observations and a lecture.
  • CAC/UNG has two positions for PhD student for the next academic year. Deadline for application is 30. June, 2019.
  • On May 29th we celebrate 100th anniversary of the Solar eclipse which confirmed Einstein’s theory of relativity. To celebrate this important milestone, we will host an event at the university center in Ajdovščina.
  • CAC/UNG is hosting the first meeting of the CEEPUS network Astro.CE. The guests will include U. of Belgrade, U. of Novi Sad, U. of Banja Luka, U. of Ljubljana, U. of Rijeka, Harvard University, SISSA, New York University and U. of Trieste!
  • Two CAC members, Dr.Tanja Petrushevska and Dr. Gabrijela Zaharijas were awarded 'Jabolko Navdiha’ by the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor. The ceremony took place on 25. 02. 2019. in the presidential palace.
