Education and Professional Qualifications

B.Sc. Physics, University of Padova

2003
Ph. D. Material Science, University of Rome, “La Sapienza”

Area of research

The scientific background of Sandra Gardonio is on surface science. She studied electronic, magnetic and chemical properties of diverse nanostructured materials (i.e. thin films, nanowires, small clusters, diluted atoms on surfaces of metals, semiconductors, transition metal, rare earth, organic molecules etc.) by means of synchrotron radiation based techniques. Her main expertise is from in-situ growth of supported nanostructures and synchrotron light based techniques such as: XPS, ARUPS, XAS, XMCD, SPEM etc.. She is currently involved into synchrotron radiation studies on magnetic and metallic nanostructures and supported nanocatalysts. She is contributing to the development of an experimental facility for performing time resolved angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy studies on surfaces.
