Objectives and competences

Students are competent to use basic physical quantities, laws and concepts from the field of mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, geometrical and wave optics to describe and explain different physical phenomena in nature or in technological processes and measuring techniques. They know how to use conservation laws for energy, momentum, electric charge and mass. They can solve basic physical problems with mathematical tools.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of secondary school mathematics.

15. interference on thin films

Intended learning outcomes

Assessment

Written and oral exam. Written examination can be performed also during the year in a form or written colloquia. Positive result in written part of examination is a prerequisite for oral examination.

Lecturer's references

Prof. dr. Iztok Arčon is a full professor for the field of physics, employed at UNG. His research filed is analysis of atomic and molecular structure of new materials and analysis of environmental pollution (soil, water and plants) with X-ray absorption spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation. With co-authors he published more than 130 scientific papers in international scientific journals with high impact factor. He published one university textbook for physics and extensive multimedia study materials on the web. He prepared several public lectures for popularisation of science. In 2006 he received a Slovene national “Zois Award” for research achievements in the field of x-ray absorption spectroscopy.
