SinFonIJA stands for Sintax Phonology and Language Analysis (SINtaksa FONologija In Jezikovna Analiza). The idea of having a conference that would travel around the area of Central and South East Europe has been around for some time, but it was never implemented.
This year, when more than 5 conferences took place in this area within the space of two months: Novi Sad, Ohrid, Maribor, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo, Osijek, etc. (plus the DiaSyn workshop in Venice), it seemed like a good time to finally unite forces and start SinFonIJA for real; otherwise the various initiatives might just disappear. The details and the conceptual set up of the conference will be discussed at the business meeting when we will also decide who the organizer of next year's event would be.
