UNG Student athlete testimonial: Eva Battistel

Basketball player and student of Engineering and Management 1st and 2nd levels

“My name is Eva Battistel and i come from Italy. My parents decided to enroll me into a school with Slovenian as language of instruction, because we live at the border and I’d thus get an opportunity to learn Slovenian. Today I’m so thankful to them for having taken this decision, because speking more languages is a great advantage. This year I’m attending my second year of studies at the School of Engineering and Management of the University of Nova Gorica. I chose this study programme because I found the courses interesting and also because I wanted to pursue further studies in the Slovenian language. I have to say that I’m really happy with my choice. Besides studies I also practise sports. I started playing basketball when I was six and I still play it. I am currently playing in B league and I have training sessions three timer a week, and at weekends I take part in competitions. Last year I played in the national finals for the A league, I will never forget that. This sport has taught me that for every single thing in your life you have to do your best and never give up. Besides studying and playing basketball, this year I also take part in the project 'Modelling of led lights’ (part of the 'A creative path to practical knowledge 2017’ national project scheme), carried out by our university in cooperation with the Led luks, d. o. o. company.

In the 2019/20 academic year she is a Master’s student of the second-level programme Engineering and Management (Second Level) and has been successfully combining her studies with her sports career.

Eva’s statement on combining her Master’s studies with her sports career:

“In the 2017/18 academic year I graduated at the first-level study programme Engineering and Management at the School of Engineering and Management, University of Nova Gorica. In the same year I played basketball in the Italian B league, but despite the training sessions and matches I, thanks to the university, managed to keep up with my studies, too. This year, I played in the Italian C league and had training sessions three times a week but in March all training sessions and competitions were cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus. In that period I was following all the lectures online and I was also training at home. Now I have passed all my exams and I started writing my Master’s thesis.”
