Manel Machreki

My name is Manel Machreki, from Tunisia, I am a PhD student of Environmental Sciences at the University of Nova Gorica. I got the opportunity to pursue my doctoral studies in the field of chemistry in the Materials Research Laboratory, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Saim Emin with the full grant awarded by Slovenian Research Agency (the Ad futura program).

English language has been used, and this is a big advantage since knowledge of English is of key importance in science. The professors and the university staff are all kind and willing to deal with each student. This university also offers practical traineeship, student exchanges, courses of foreign languages and many other things. To be honest, the country of Slovenia itself is peaceful and incredibly beautiful. A lot of wonderful nature like mountains, rivers, farmlands and people who are so welcoming.

After spending three years here, I gained a lot of experience and knowledge about research and laboratory work. I discovered some new techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. My supervisor played a big role in my studies. He trained me well to be independent in using all the equipment without any difficulties.

I consider myself lucky to have got the chance to study at this university, along with an international staff in well-established laboratories. Finally, as an international PhD student in Slovenia, I truly recommend to study or work here this will give everyone a good opportunity to do science, improve their skills, find friends and see the beautiful nature.
