History

On 17 June 2002, the School of Engineering and Management awarded the first diplomas to the students of the higher education study programme Economics and Management of Production and Technological Systems at Kromberk castle. The first graduates became David Cej and Uroš Jug.

The above-mentioned study programme, which Nova Gorica Polytechnic began implementing in the 1998/1999 study year, represents a novelty in the Slovene university area. During their studies the students become acquainted with modern knowledge in the fields of engineering and economic sciences. In such a way the graduates can easily communicate with technologists and the management of larger production companies, while in smaller companies they can assume the role of a technologist and businessperson all in one. A part of the study (one semester) is dedicated to practical training, which the students carry out in companies in the Gorica region.

The first diploma theses are satisfactory, since they cover important fields (designing technological processes, management and evaluation of investment projects, development and management of computerised systems, etc.), at the same time attaining an enviable level of expertise. The most important fact is that most of the graduates are already employed. With the system of monitoring and encouraging the employment of our graduates, which is being developed at Nova Gorica Polytechnic, we will be able to aid future young experts in finding employment.
