Relocation of the School of Arts to Gorizia
On Wednesday, 26th September 2012, the University of Nova Gorica and the Province of Gorizia signed a six-year tenancy lease for the Alvarez Palace premises in Gorizia.
By signing the tenancy lease for the new premises, the University of Nova Gorica to a large extent solved the current issue of space availability and acquired an additional area of over 1,000 sq m, which shall serve to carry out the activities of the study programmes of the School of Arts. The School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica, up to 2009 referred to as the Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts, shall therefore, following its successful involvement in the revival of the historic Fužine Castle (1994 - 2004) and tackling the issue of the modern and yet desolate Bežigrajski dvor pedestrian underpass in Ljubljana (2004 - 2012), carry on with its activities on a local as well as on a broader scale within its new premises in Gorizia, located only a step away from the Slovene national border. The School shall continue to apply the uses of art to various new contexts and environments, from creative industries on the basis of specific links with science and tehnologies to interdisciplinary media-production contexts, from laboratories to streets.
The new premises of the School of Arts include a large multi-purpose hall for seminars, workshops and projections as well as a lecture room on the ground floor, two computer rooms, a room for projections and a room for semi-formal and social events on the first floor.
This is another valuable contribution to the development of the international orientation of the University of Nova Gorica as well as to its involvement within the international academic environment, which have been the University’s assets since its founding in 1995. The School of Arts has thus joined the School of Environmetal Sciences and the School of Applied Sciences, whose study programmes are also being carried out in Gorizia, in the premises of the former Šolski dom in Via della Croce, and the Graduate School, whose study programme Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage are being carried out in Venice.
