University of Nova Gorica invites to the lecture: "Can regenerative medicine conquer aging?" by Prof. Dr. Gerald P. Schatten.

Lecture will take place on Wednesday, 14 October 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Lanthieri mansion in Vipava.

Lecture will be in English.

Unanticipated dramatic discoveries on pluripotent stem cells, aging diseases and disorders modeled with these plastic cells, cloning, genetic modifications and stem cell fidelity have truly global implications for life, death and aging, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
This lecture will consider the latest breakthroughs, promises, challenges and hype regarding regenerative medicine and therapies to forestall or even reverse aging. Also, we are on the brink of a ‘Brave New World,’ what with the emerging sophisticated technologies to generate gametes from patient’s skin cells, genetic corrections with unrivaled accuracy, disease modeling with stem cells in vitro and offspring with more than two parents.
Beyond the biomedical research opportunities afforded, we must also consider not only "Can we do this?" but especially "Should we do this?".
Research and Mentoring Sponsored by the US National Institutes of Health.
