The University of Nova Gorica is offering position of assistant PhD student in the field of molecular and cell biology.

We invite applications from candidates interested in host-pathogen interactions in persistent viral infections. The successful candidate will be directly involved in research work investigating changes at the cellular level during primary infection and the identification of genetic and metabolic changes during persistent infections. One of the goals will also be to identify factors with antimicrobial potential that would be suitable for prophylactic or therapeutic applications. Working methods will be based on techniques of molecular and cell biology and microbiology. Advanced methods in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and genetic analysis will also be included.
The research work will be in Laboratory for Environmental and Life sciences under the mentorship of doc. dr. Martina Bergant Marušič.

As part of their employment, the candidate will work towards attaining a PhD degree as a student of the doctoral study program Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology at the Graduate School of the University of Nova Gorica.
In accordance with their appointment, the successful candidate will also take on teaching duties in the field of biochemistry and cell biology in selected study programmes at the university.

The employment will be possible immediately after the selection procedure or when agreed. The employment is offered for full-time working hours over a fixed term of four years.

The successful candidate should satisfy the following requirements:

  • Master's (2nd-cycle) degree or equivalent in the field of biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, microbiology or similar,
  • enrolment in the doctoral study program in the Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology at the Graduate School of the University of Nova Gorica in the academic year 2022/23,
  • good command of English.
