The University of Nova Gorica has a vacancy for the position of post-doctoral researcher at the rank of assistant with Phd or assistant professor in psycho- and neurolinguistics.

We are looking for candidates interested in pursuing a rewarding research and academic career at the University of Nova Gorica. We offer a dynamic research environment supported by state-of-the-art research equipment and a pronounced international orientation.

The work will be conducted in the Center for Cognitve Science of Language.

The successful candidate will conduct experimental research employing the EEG/ERP and/or eye-tracking techniques in the Center’s newly established lab featuring a 64-electrode Brain Products ActiCHamp system and EyeLink 1000 plus eye-tracker. S/he will join a research project that investigates sentence comprehension and production by monolingual and bilingual populations, funded by the Slovenian Research Agency and led by prof. dr. Artur Stepanov. As part of the project team the candidate will play a key role in designing experimental paradigms, recruiting participants, conducting experimental protocols as well as in statistical analysis of raw data and preparation of publishable reports. The candidate may also be asked to take over moderate teaching obligations in the university's linguistics programs.

The successful candidate will be employed on a full-time basis for a fixed term of one year (pending budgetary approval, there may be a possibility to renew for a second year). The expected start date is December 12th, 2022 (earlier start is also possible).

If the candidate submits evidence of holding a valid title of assistant professor, employment at this rank will be considered.

To be considered for the position, candidates should have:

  • a PhD in (Psycho-/Neuro-)linguistics, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology or another relevant field,
  • hands-on experience with EEG/ERP and/or eye-tracking methodologies and ability to take the lead in research that employs these techniques,
  • experience in conducting experimental work with bilingual populations populations using the above-mentioned methodologies,
  • solid competence of statistical analysis and knowledge of relevant programs, programming and analyses suites (Brain Analyzer, R, MATLAB, etc.),
  • ability to work both independently and as part of a project team,
  • excellent communication skills.

The following will be considered advantages:

  • proven research experience or an active research agenda that concerns the relevant topics,
  • knowledge of Slavic languages, knowledge of Italian,
  • familiarity with the bilingual population in the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region of Italy and the Littoral region of Slovenia for the purpose of recruiting potential subjects for experiments from these areas.
