The Fund, named after a Slovenian patriot, has been recognised as a charitable institution and awards scholarships to less wealthy yet deserving students from the Slovenian ethnic community in Italy. Since 1996, more than EUR 300,000 worth of scholarships have been awarded.

Erika Tomsič is a doctoral student in Physics at the Graduate School. As a young researcher, she mainly studies two-dimensional materials such as graphene and hexagonal boron nitride. She has already published two scientific articles in established international journals and participated in several scientific conferences during her studies.
