Objectives and competences

The objective of the course is to deepen the knowledge of current problems in viticulture / enology and related fields through the independent project work. Acquired competences: knowledge of current issues and ways of solving them, competence for independent project work, writing a scientific seminar of selected topic, preparation of a plan of work in scientific and research work. The student acquires the skills of working in the team.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in viticulture-enology issues. This course represents a basis for the course Research project in viticulture and enology 2 in the second year of master studies.

Content

The course takes place at both semesters, where the first semester is intended to acquire knowledge in the field of reading, understanding and interpreting the results of various scientific articles and reports of current research in the field of viticulture and wine production, as well as from indirectly related areas. Interesting hosting experts, research scientists will give seminar lectures, which will be followed by a reflection discussion and the preparation of seminar report.
At the end of the semester students choose a mentor for further work in the second semester of studies in the framework of the Research project in viticulture and enology science 1. In the second semester, the student prepares the design of the topic of the research project with the selected mentor who leads the student at work. At the end of the first year, the topic is presented appropriately in writing and in oral form of report. The course is coordinated by the holder, who works with the project mentors.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding: * The students will be able to track project work on research topics * The students will be able to independently aquire the knowledge of research topics discussed. * The students will be able to present the aquired knowledge and the resuls of their research to the public.

Articles from professional journals, technical and scientific books from selected topics (the actual sources cannot be specifies as they depend on the topic of each individual project).

Assessment

Successful presentation of the seminar (50%) and written report (50%)

The leader of the course is assistant profesor for the field of Enology at University of Nova Gorica and Head of Wine research centre at University of Nova Gorica.
Mentors are university teachers from selected resarch fields.
