Narrative aspects and foci of Slovenian short prose

Objectives and competences

The main goal of the course is to provide students with an overview of the development of Slovene short narrative prose and place it in relation to European literary trends and to acquaint them with the basic form and content characteristics of Slovene short narrative prose in historical perspective. The course also aims to train students to understand the development of the narrative turn. Competences: students expand and deepen their knowledge in the field of narratology and short narrative prose.

Prerequisites

The successful integration in the study course is connected with the knowledge of other literary-historical and cultural historical formations in the field of Slovenian literature and culture and linguistics.

Content

Basic concepts in narratology.

A short narrative prose between tradition and modernity: a historical look through the periods.

Short prose innovations in individual poetics.

From humorous to grotesque: the genre of short narrative prose, line and formal lighting.

Topography of Slovenian short narrative prose.

Intended learning outcomes

Students are understand basic literary-historical concepts related to short narrative prose and narrative theories. They are able to problematically deal with short narrative prose in relation to literary periods, directions, currents and other literary phenomena.

Assessment

Written exam. By continuously completing written assignments and actively participating in the seminar, students can obtain a 30% grade point average.

Prof. dr. Katja Mihurko Poniž is a literary historian and dramaturg who also researches short prose. She is the editor of Zofka Kveder's Collected Works.
