University of Nova Gorica announces five assistant young researchers positions in the field of physics.

Successful candidates will pursue PhD studies at the University of Nova Gorica under supervision of the following PhD advisers:

  • prof. dr. Gvido Bratina (experimental studies of quantum effects in van der Waals heterostructures on graphene) - one position;
  • prof. dr. Giovanni de Ninno (studies of atoms, molecules and structures by photons and particles) - one position;
  • prof. dr. Danilo Zavrtanik (astrophysics, research within the Pierre Auger Collaboration) - one position;
  • doc. dr. Gabrijela Zaharijas (astrophysics, research within the Cherenkov Telescope Array consortium) - one position;
  • doc. dr. Asta Gregorič (atmospheric physics, meteorology, remote sensing) - one position.

Applicants are expected to meet the criteria for Young researchers as described in the Article 113 of the Rules on the "Procedures of the (co)financing and Monitoring of Research Activities": https://www.arrs.si/sl/akti/18/prav-sof-ocen-sprem-razisk-dej-jan2018.asp:
(1) Candidates for young researchers must fulfill the following conditions: * having at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, obtained in a study course adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004 and the average grade of all examinations and coursework (excluding the degree examination) of at least 8.00 (out of 10), and meeting all conditions for doctoral studies; or * having another degree in a relevant field, obtained in a master’s study course adopted in the Republic of Slovenia after 11 June 2004 and the average grade of all examinations and coursework (excluding the degree examination) of at least 8.00 (out of 10); or * having a master's degree obtained in a master's study course adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004; or * comparable education to that referred to in the first, second and third indent hereunder acquired at foreign universities; and * be 28 years or less of age; * be adaptable to work in an international environment and be proficient in English.
(2) If a candidate for young researcher has already entered PhD studies to acquire a science academic title or has a MSc degree obtained in a master’s study course adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004, the average grade of the undergraduate studies shall be irrelevant, except in the case of a repeated entry in the first year of PhD studies.
(3) If the candidate for young researcher has used the parental leave – with one year accounted per one child – the period since defending of the thesis or the master's thesis shall be extended beyond five years. Equally applies to documented sick leaves exceeding six months.
(4) Young researchers already financed in a program for young researchers, who previously prematurely terminated the program or failed to complete the it within the set period are not eligible in this call.
