Achievements

Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko, from the University of Nova Gorica in co-authorship with prof. dr. Chieu D. Tran from Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI, USA) have contributed a chapter on „Thermal Lens Spectroscopy” to the Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc..

The chapter „Thermal Lens Spectroscopy” describes the development of this new spectroscopic technique, which is gaining importance in analytical chemistry due to its extremely high sensitivity. The authors present theoretical background of the thermal lens technique, as well as state of the art TLS instrumentation and its most important applications in the fields of chemical analysis, physical chemistry, environmental research, food quality and safety, and biomedicine. Important part of the chapter is devoted to achievements of the Laboratory of environmental research at the University of Nova Gorica. Prof. Franko’s group is in fact one of the leading groups working in the field of development and applications of thermal lens spectrometry, and its high international reputation was decisive for the invitation to the writing of the chapter for encyclopedia.

Publication of this chapter represents an important achievement and recognition of relevant contributions to the development of the thermal lens spectrometry at international level. The Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry, which comprises over 600 chapters, on approximately 14000 pages in 15 volumes, is actually an essential cross-disciplinary reference work for all analytical chemists in academia and industry.
