Dr. Martina Bergant Marušič is an Associate Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Nova Gorica. She conducts her research within the Laboratory for Environmental and Life Sciences. She is also Director of the doctoral study programme Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology.
She obtained her PhD in Biotechnology from the Biotechnical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana in 2006, where she also completed her undergraduate degree in Biology in 2001.
She has been employed at the University of Nova Gorica since 2006.
Her main research focuses on human papillomaviruses (HPV), particularly the interactions between the pathogen and the host cell during persistent infection and the mechanisms underlying HPV infectivity. She is also involved in the development of in vitro methods for assessing the cytotoxicity of various biomedical materials and environmental pollutants.
She participates as a principal investigator or researcher in numerous national and international research projects.
