The University of Nova Gorica has a vacancy for the position of assistant / junior researcher
in the field of forest biology, ecology and technology.
Deadline for applications: 31. 8. 2020

We invite candidates who are interested in working as an assistant/junior researcher (doctoral candidate) to apply for this position at the student-friendly and research-oriented University of Nova Gorica. The work will be conducted at the Laboratory for Environmental and Life Sciences, in a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment supported by state-of-the-art equipment, and will include direct involvement in the international research arena.

The research work will be conducted as part of the Identification of stress biomarkers and stress communication mechanisms in forest trees project. The project will be based on a combined analysis of oxidative stress markers and enzymatic biomarkers for the identification and differentiation of biotic and abiotic stress factors such as pollution, insect and microbial infestation in forest trees. The work will focus on two main areas: the production of specific ligands for determining and quantifying biomarkers and evaluating extracellular vesicles as physiological and stress pollutants in forest plants. The project will be run in collaboration with the Slovenian Forestry Institute and involves frequent travel between the two institutions.

We expect the candidate to have a background in biology (biochemistry/plant physiology/molecular or cellular biology/microbiology/biotechnology), the ability to bring together field and laboratory work, and an interest in developing new research approaches. We would also look favourably on experience with standard cloning and purification procedures (chromatographic techniques), characterisation (ELISA, IP, WB, biochemical tests), protein labelling, light microscopy, flow cytometry, extracellular vesicles and biophysical analysis.

Candidates for this position must meet the conditions applying to junior researchers as set out in Article 113 Rules on Financing, Co-Financing and Assessment Procedures and on the Monitoring of Research Activities.

The following must be attached to the application: * a brief motivational letter * a CV * a copy of your degree certificate or other relevant documents * a letter of recommendation
Please send your application, along with proof that you meet the requirements, via e-mail to tea.stibilj.nemec@ung.si by 31 August 2020. The application should be sent as a single pdf e-mail attachment.
