Darko Štrajn is a member of the research programme in educational sciences at the Educational Research Institute in Ljubljana and full professor of philosophy at the Graduate School for Studies in Humanities (AMEU- ISH) in Ljubljana, Slovenia. One line of his work is represented by his theses on Fichte’s philosophy of subjectivity (he published a book Subject of Freedom in 1987). Other line of his life’s work comprises aesthetics, film and media studies, educational research and journalism. Aesthetics, film studies and film criticism made an important part of his work throughout his career. In late 1980s he published a book on film Melodrama in Slovenian language with an extensive summary in English. In 1998 he spent two semesters at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) at the University of Amsterdam. His numerous publications in the above mentioned fields comprise five books, over a hundred research articles, tens of book chapters, conference papers and other publications as well as audio-visual media appearances.
