The international post-graduate study programme in “Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage” is part of the Graduate School of the University of Nova Gorica.

The study programme is the result of a collaboration with the University IUAV of Venice, Italy, and is distinctly interdisciplinary through architectural-engineering and economic-juridical knowledge, which integrates the theoretical principles of conservation. The programme in “Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage” started in the academic year 2005/2006 and counts 32 active students.

On 13 July 2011 ICCROM, the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, confirmed its patronage to the doctoral program in Economics and Techniques for the Conservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage. The University of Nova Gorica and ICCROM are also finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding for future collaboration in the field of heritage protection, planning and management. This challenging joint educational and research effort will aim at facing the complexity of interdisciplinary heritage research experiences and its transfer to real life circumstances.

ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the conservation of cultural heritage. Its members are individual states which have declared their adhesion to it. It exists to serve the international community as represented by its Member States, which currently number 129. It is the only institution of its kind with a worldwide mandate to promote the conservation of all types of cultural heritage, both movable and immovable.
