Trans2Care (Transregional Network for Innovation and Technology Transfer to Improve Health Care) is a stratigic project integrated in the interregional cross-border program Slovenia-Italy within European Territorial Co-operation 2007-2013. The project involves and integrates the expertise of 13 research, education, healthcare and technology transfer institutions.

Its goal is to generate a permanent, bi-directional flow of knowledge transfer among the project partners, industry and other stakeholders to establish an environment generating innovative products and services for the public healthcare system. In particular, the project addresses questions about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of widespread diseases. Innovations will be developed on the basis of unmet medical needs expressed by the healthcare personnel. These will be feasible due to the close interactions among researchers and industry that will translate scientific and technological expertise into products. These innovations shall contribute to the improvement of the healthcare system and the creation of new jobs for highly qualified young workers as well as the generation of the “spin-off” companies. The project will also aim to ensure the sustainability of the partnership beyond the conclusion of its activities.

The total budget amount of the project (duration: 1.4. 2011 to 30.9. 2011) is 2.611.118,00 EUR, out of which 150.416,00 EUR is assigned to the University of Nova Gorica.

The main input of the University of Nova Gorica is to provide new highly sensitive and fast analytical methods for biomedicine diagnoses, which are being developed by the co-workers of the Laboratory for Environmental Research. New state-of-the-art laser-based spectroscopic methods combined with the bioanalytical assays in chromatographic, microfluidic and flow injection systems will enable the determination of various substances relevant to the biomedical research and diagnostics. Moreover, such systems provide ultra-high sensitivity that is needed for the detection of toxic as well as health beneficial compounds present in the biological liquids (exp. free bilirubin and antioxidants such as anthocyanins), tissues and foods (exp. alergens such as biogen amins).
