On Monday, January 7, 2013, the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik, the President of the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, Alojz Kovšca, and the President of the Science and Technology Committee at the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, Janez Škrlec signed an agreement on collaboration.

This agreement is important for the development and the use of new materials and for getting to know new technological processes and acquiring knowledge in the field of nanotechnology, energetics and environmental technologies. It will enable greater interlacing of economy and science and the application of new technologies in the development of new products and services with a higher added value.

The agreement covers the business and the professional side of the transfer of the new technologies into businesses, enables help with implementing new knowledge into contemporary craft and business, collaboration on organizing professional seminars, technological and nanotechnological days, conferences, forums, as well as cooperation at fairs and on planning of joint projects.

The collaboration agreement also denotes greater integration of economy and science, and especially, the transfer of knowledge into small businesses and companies dealing with microeconomy. The University of Nova Gorica will offer professional help to entrepreneurs and craftsmen and enable them to develop and use new technologies with the goal of achieving a successful development of new products and services with a higher added value.

Upon signing the agreement, prof. dr. Zavrtanik noted that the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia was important mostly as a voice of the interests, needs and expectations of craftsmen and small business owners: “It is important to have an intermediary, as we cannot reach each and every craftsman in person. And even if we could, it would be difficult to put together the list of their needs in its entirety, while the Chamber already has that list.”
