The School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Nova Gorica and the Department of Molecular Sciences and NanoSystems at Ca' Foscari University of Venice offer two programs that complement each other well and they are closely connected through scientific and research work that each department conducts. The first one offers knowledge of chemistry basics as well as scholarship in environmental technologies, the other one is more oriented towards environmental chemistry, measurement techniques and preservation of the environment. Following the European guidelines and the guidelines of the Bologna Declaration the universities decided to work together on student exchange programs, as well as the exchange of researches and professors. Such practices are well known within the EU, however, they are acquiring new forms and dimensions in this region; they are made possible by the geographical location of both universities. As the universities are close to one another and there are good transport connections between the two, it is possible to connect on a daily basis and practice really close collaboration. The students would not even have to leave their homeland for long and move abroad.

The conjoining of the two programs will enrich the course offering and make the two programs even more appealing for the students. Moreover, the students will get to know different and quite specific cultural, historical as well as natural habitats that surround and define the two universities.

The academic year 2013/2014 is already planned as the start-up year for this collaboration to become operative. The students who will fulfill all the requirements at alma mater that the agreement presupposes and take the minimal number of courses at the collaborating university, can get their Master's degree, regardless of their alma mater, at either the University of Nova Gorica or at Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
